What this solves
Most "glacier hikes" marketed to tourists are either not real glacier walks (paved, grated, just a view) or are real glacier walks that require booking a guide. The middle ground — independent glacier walk with rented crampons — exists at very few spots. This tool sorts the marketing from the alpine.
How to read
- Guided: book through the local mountain school or operator. CHF 100–180 for half-day, includes harness + crampons.
- Independent: bring your own or rent equipment. Without experience, dangerous.
- "Glacier" in name only: paved path on the glacier side, no special gear.
Limitations
- Crevasses are hidden year-round. Without guide + rope, never walk on unmarked glacier.
- Insurance: most ski insurance excludes glacier rescue. Add mountain rescue supplement if going.
FAQ
Is Glacier 3000 a real glacier hike?
No — it's a metal walkway. You see the ice, you don't walk on it.
