Build a greeting
What this solves
Switzerland has 4 national languages. Tourists default to High German and feel awkward in Geneva or Ticino. This tool gives the right greeting for any Swiss context — including the German Swiss don't actually use.
How to read
- German CH formal = "Grüezi" (universal, both Sie and respected Du).
- French formal = "Bonjour".
- Italian formal = "Buongiorno".
- Romansh = "Allegra" (Sursilvan) / "Bun di" (Vallader).
Limitations
- Don't use "Du" with strangers unless you're sure. Wait for them to offer.
- Romansh has 5 regional varieties — one greeting isn't universal.
FAQ
How do I switch from Sie to Du?
Wait for the Swiss person to suggest it ("wir können Du sagen"). Don't ask first.
