Pick a route
What this solves
Almost every comparison page either pushes FlixBus (because affiliates) or Nightjet (because they're rail fans). The truth is: the cheapest is sometimes the train, sometimes the bus, sometimes the flight, depending on the route. This tool shows you the full picture with luggage, transfer, and the seat-reservation surcharge that train tickets often hide.
How to read
- Total cost includes a transfer at the destination city (ZVV + SBB or local metro).
- Travel time is station/station. For flights it excludes the 2h airport arrival buffer.
- Sleep? = a sleeper or couchette exists on that route.
Limitations
- Prices are 2026 reference for low-season advance booking. Same-day or summer: +30–60%.
- Nightjet seat-only prices (no sleeper) start around CHF 39 but the cheapest couchettes are CHF 89–130.
- Easyjet/Wizz carry-on dimensions differ — the "free" small bag is 40×25×20cm. Anything else is paid.
FAQ
Is the Nightjet always cheapest?
No. Zürich → Berlin it's roughly the same as FlixBus. Zürich → Milan it's twice as expensive as FlixBus. Zürich → Vienna it's the cheapest option that has a sleeper.
Does a Eurail pass cover Nightjet?
Pass holders pay a supplement from CHF 10–70 depending on country. Sleeper compartments are extra.
